NEET UG 2026 Cancelled: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially announced the cancellation of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG) 2026. The decision comes after a high-level review of inputs provided by central investigative agencies regarding the conduct of the examination held on May 3, 2026. This move marks one of the most significant interventions in the history of the national-level medical entrance test.
According to the official statement released by the NTA, the agency had referred specific matters to central agencies for independent verification on May 8, 2026. Following a detailed coordination with law enforcement agencies, the NTA concluded that the integrity of the current examination process had been compromised. To ensure transparency and maintain public trust, the agency, with the approval of the Government of India, decided that the previous results would not stand.
The Union Government has taken a stern view of the situation and has formally handed over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The CBI is tasked with conducting a comprehensive inquiry into the allegations of irregularities and procedural lapses. The NTA has pledged full cooperation to the bureau, stating it will provide all necessary documents, records, and digital evidence required to facilitate a thorough probe.
Acknowledging the distress this decision causes, the NTA noted that the re-conduct of such a massive exercise is a difficult but necessary step. The agency emphasized that allowing a compromised process to continue would cause “greater and more lasting damage” to the credibility of the national examination system. While the date for the fresh examination has not been announced yet, the NTA confirmed that a new schedule and admit cards would be issued shortly through official channels.
In continuation of its press release dated 10 May 2026, the National Testing Agency wishes to inform candidates, parents, and members of the public of the following decisions taken in respect of NEET (UG) 2026. NTA had, on 8 May 2026, referred the matters then under consideration…

In a significant relief for the lakhs of students affected, the NTA has clarified that candidates will not have to undergo the registration process again. The data, candidature, and examination centers selected during the initial May 2026 cycle will be carried forward automatically for the re-exam. This measure aims to reduce the administrative burden on students who are already facing the stress of a cancelled examination.
Furthermore, the NTA has announced a full refund of the examination fees already paid by the students. The agency stated that it would bear the entire cost of re-conducting the examination through its internal resources. This decision was made to ensure that no additional financial burden is placed on the families of the aspirants due to the administrative decision to restart the process.
The NTA has issued a strong advisory to students and parents regarding the spread of misinformation. With tensions high, several unverified reports have begun circulating on social media platforms. The agency urged stakeholders to rely strictly on official communications released via their website and authorized emails. The NTA reiterated its commitment to conducting a fair, secure, and credible examination for all medical aspirants across the country.
Candidates are advised to keep their previous application details safe and monitor the official NTA helpline and website for the announcement of the new exam date. The agency has provided dedicated contact numbers (011-40759000 and 011-69227700) and an email address ([email protected]) for any queries related to the upcoming re-conduct of the NEET UG 2026.
