LAKHISARAI: Bihar Police on Monday announced the bust of an alleged impersonation racket operating during the recent NEET re-examination in Lakhisarai district, resulting in the arrest of 30 individuals. Those taken into custody include suspected dummy candidates, facilitators, and biometric verification staff.
The NEET re-test was conducted on June 21 across four dedicated examination centres in the district, under the supervision of centre superintendents, magistrates, and police personnel deployed to ensure a fair process.
During the course of the exam, authorities received intelligence that attempts were underway to seat “scholar” or dummy candidates in place of the actual aspirants. Acting on the inputs, centre superintendents, static teams, and flying squads verified the claims before a special team was formed under the supervision of the Lakhisarai Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) and Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) to conduct exhaustive checks.
The subsequent crackdown focused on three specific venues: RK College, Kendriya Vidyalaya, and Hasanpur High School, where police apprehended several individuals linked to the operation.
According to the police, dummy candidates managed to enter the examination halls with the active “facilitation and cooperation” of the biometric personnel deployed at these centres. Investigators revealed that the suspects used forged documents, including fake Aadhaar cards, as identity proof to secure unauthorized entry into the venues.
Among the arrested dummy candidates are students pursuing professional courses like MBBS, BAMS, and BSc Nursing at various institutions across Bihar, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, and Jharkhand.
The police have also identified one original candidate and two associates linked to the racket. Furthermore, multiple biometric system operators and supervisors tasked with candidate verification have been taken into custody. A police statement confirmed that 18 biometric personnel, including supervisors, have been named in the case as investigators probe their specific roles in facilitating the impersonation.
Following the operation, three separate cases have been registered—one at the Kiul police station and two at the Kavayya police station. Further investigation into the racket is currently underway.
