19-Year-Old College Student Was Killed on April 13
The incident took place at around 9 am on April 13, 2026, in the Gopalpur area of the Sarkaghat subdivision in Mandi district. Siya, a 19-year-old college student, was on her way from home to Sarkaghat College. As she approached her house, the accused, Vikas Patial, allegedly attacked her suddenly with a darati (sickle-like cutting tool) and slit her throat. The incident triggered widespread anger in the area. Local residents present at the scene caught the accused and handed him over to the police.
Police Found No Previous Enmity
According to the police investigation, there was no previous enmity between the accused and Siya. Investigators also found that the murder was not committed with the intention of robbery or theft. Police records and the investigation indicated that the accused was addicted to intoxicating substances and committed the crime in a state of intoxication and irrationality. The brutal killing raised serious concerns about law and order and public safety across the region.
Protests Across Himachal Pradesh
Siya belonged to a modest family. She was pursuing a B.Voc (Bachelor of Vocation) course in college. Her father works as a truck driver and supports the family through his earnings. The murder sent shockwaves across Himachal Pradesh and sparked widespread public outrage. Various organisations and students staged protests across the state, demanding swift and strict justice for Siya. With the legal proceedings now in their final stage, attention has turned to the court’s verdict in the case.
