OpenAI smartphone launch: OpenAI is preparing to launch its own artificial intelligence smartphone, marking a strategic shift from software to hardware for the company widely known for its chatbot and AI tools. The move positions OpenAI to compete directly with established premium brands, including Apple’s iPhone.
According to well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the company is expediting its development timeline. While initial projections suggested a potential launch by 2028, production for the device is now reportedly set to begin in the first half of 2026. The smartphone is expected to be powered by a MediaTek Dimensity chipset, which will likely be based on advanced TSMC technology to ensure high-end performance.

On the specifications front, the AI-focused handset is anticipated to feature a dual Neural Processing Unit to handle complex artificial intelligence tasks with greater efficiency. Other expected high-end specifications include enhanced camera processing capabilities, LPDDR6 memory, and UFS 5.0 storage. The device may also integrate specific security-focused hardware features. It is important to note that OpenAI has not yet made any official announcement regarding the device, and these specifications remain unconfirmed.
