Pay Scale: Selected candidates for the post of Principal will be placed in Level 12 of the 7th Pay Commission, while Vice Principals will receive pay under Level 10.
Eligibility Criteria and Age Limits
1. Principal Posts
Educational Qualification: Candidates must hold both a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree from a recognized university.
Experience Requirement: Minimum 10 years of service as a Vice Principal, Post Graduate Teacher (PGT), or Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT) in a recognized High School, Higher Secondary School, Senior Secondary School, or Intermediate College.
Age Limit: The maximum age limit is 50 years for General/EWS candidates, 53 years for OBC candidates, and 55 years for SC/ST candidates. Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) are eligible for an age relaxation of up to 10 years, subject to a maximum upper age limit of 56 years.
2. Vice Principal Posts
Educational Qualification: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree from a recognized university.
Experience Requirement: At least 2 years of experience as a Post Graduate Teacher (PGT) or 3 years of experience as a Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT).
Age Limit: The upper age limit is set at 35 years for General/EWS candidates, 38 years for OBC candidates, and 40 years for SC/ST applicants. PwBD candidates are entitled to a relaxation of up to 10 years as per rules, subject to a maximum upper age limit of 56 years.
UPSC Recruitment 2026: Selection Process
The selection procedure will begin with a pen-and-paper mode Combined Recruitment Test (CRT) conducted by the Commission. Candidates who clear the written test will be shortlisted for the interview stage, which carries 100 marks. The schedule for the interview round will be released separately by UPSC. Shortlisted candidates will be required to bring a printout of their completed online application form along with their original educational and experience documents to the interview venue.
