Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh brought his concert in Calgary, Canada, to a halt during his ‘Aura World Tour’ after pro-Khalistan supporters created a ruckus. The artist was visibly angered by a section of the crowd displaying posters and flags from the audience.
Diljit directly confronted the protesters from the stage, speaking firmly in Punjabi. He explained in detail why he appeared as a guest on Amitabh Bachchan’s show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ (KBC) last year. Pro-Khalistan supporters had accused the singer of touching the feet of Amitabh Bachchan, an actor against whom allegations of inciting violence against the Sikh community during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots are often raised.
Addressing the crowd, the singer asserted that while charity is not his explicit job, he ensures he speaks about Punjab wherever he travels. “We often say that the national media does not talk about Punjab. That is why I went everywhere, even on that channel (Sony Entertainment Television for KBC), strictly for Punjab. I raised issues concerning the state there,” Diljit stated from the stage.
He further clarified that he has selflessly helped his state whenever the need arose. Notably, during his 2025 appearance on the show, he had appealed for donations for relief and rescue operations following devastating floods in Punjab and had himself contributed substantial aid.
The singer did not stop there; he remarked that he even attended Jimmy Fallon’s show with the sole purpose of bringing global attention to the history of Punjab and the Guru Nanak ship incident. “I did not go there to promote a film or a song. I went there to highlight Punjab and its issues before the world so that even national media would discuss them,” he added.
Taking a stern stand against the disruption, Diljit warned the flag-waving protesters. He stated that if the audience still took issue with him sitting opposite someone on television, then they were free to continue waving as many flags as they wished. The concert resumed shortly after.
The controversy dates back to October of the previous year when Diljit appeared on KBC 17. During the episode, his gesture of touching Amitabh Bachchan’s feet and his performance of the song ‘Main Hoon Punjab’ from his film ‘Chamkila’ sparked backlash. Post-broadcast, the singer reportedly received threats from Sikhs For Justice (SFJ), an organisation linked to pro-Khalistan groups.
