NEW DELHI: Ahead of the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament beginning July 20, the Union government has convened an all-party meeting on July 19. The meeting is scheduled to take place at 11 am.

The primary objective of the meeting is to discuss the agenda for the session and ensure its smooth functioning. The government will brief leaders and representatives of various political parties about the key bills proposed to be introduced during the session.

According to sources, the government has a heavy legislative agenda lined up for the session, which is proposed to run from July 20 to August 13. While the government will outline its legislative plans, opposition parties will put forward the issues they intend to raise on the floor of the House.

The Monsoon Session is expected to be stormy, following recent major political upheavals within prominent opposition ranks. In the wake of assembly election defeats, 20 Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs have merged with the National Citizens Party of India and demanded separate seating arrangements in the Lok Sabha. Furthermore, three TMC Rajya Sabha MPs have resigned and joined the BJP.

Similarly, six Lok Sabha MPs from Shiv Sena (UBT) have joined the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, while seven Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MPs had previously switched over to the BJP.

Amid these shifts, a range of national and international issues, spanning law and order to border security, are likely to be debated. The opposition is expected to raise the issue of ethanol blending in petrol and the alleged theft of offerings at the Ram Mandir.

Sources added that opposition parties are planning to strongly raise the NEET paper leak case and the sacrifice of soldiers in ‘Operation Sindoor’. The Congress party has also given a breach of privilege notice against Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Additionally, the proposed 130th Constitutional Amendment Bill is expected to trigger heated debates during the session.
